Founded by Victoria Crandall in 1959, the Maine State Music Theatre (then known as the summer playhouse Pickard Theatre) was opened with the production of The Song of Norway.  By the 1960’s, with many other summer playhouses popping up in the northeast, Victoria Crandall’s theatre remained one of the few that produced musicals exclusively.  In the 1970’s the theatre became non-profit so it could provide education and training to young artists in the theatre crafts. With shows like Brigadoon, Funny Girl, The Sound of Music and Grease, the theatre was soon becoming a local favorite. Today the theatre now occupies a new building that has been fully renovated to provide comfort and a pleasing atmosphere for theatre attendees.  For more information and the current schedule, click on the link at the bottom of this page.
